Now for the NEWEST AWARD in BLOGGYSPHERE!
Drum roll please.....

Introducing the Beacon of Hope Award!

This is an award I created to honor those blogs that are truly inspirational and leave their readers feeling hopeful and uplifted. I have decided to award it to just two blogs at a time instead of giving it to several at once like most awards. However, those that receive it can pass it onto five or more. I would really like to give it to every single blog I read regularly, but then that wouldn't make it as special. So...

The first two
Beacon of Hope Award
recipients are:
another drum roll please....

This blog is so much fun that I always leave feeling uplifted and in a good mood! She has a way of making the most mundane things of life so entertaining! She has a great attitude and I always come away laughing!
Yvonne has the most positive attitude about everything and anything she blogs about. Her posts are always very insightful and full of wisdom. She teaches me many things just from reading how she handles her life situations. I always leave her blog feeling uplifted and grateful.

Purple Congrats - Myspace Glitters

In receiving this award there are some rules. You must...

1. Choose 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award that are inspirational, uplifting, and leave you with a feeling of hope or cheer that contribute to the blogging community, no matter what language.
2. Link them on your blog.
3. Link to the person you received the award from.
4. Leave a comment on the blogs you nominated.
5. Add this link Beacon of Hope as the origin of this award.
6. Post these rules.
Congrats and thanks again!!!
"The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it." {Charles Swindoll}

Friday Fill-In, Know & Tell Friday

Happy 8-8-08!!!

1. You know you're old when you go to bed before your kids!

2. My heart is divided between going to bed and finishing this post!

3. Sleep is what I need RIGHT NOW!

4. I have felt the pain of losing a child I have known the depths of sorrow and grief.

5. Gah, won't these people let me sleep!

6. Be grateful as soon as you can!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to going to dinner with my hub, getting unpacked from girl's camp, and going to bed early so I can catch up on my sleep!, tomorrow my plans include my long run (hopefully a 12 or 13 miler) and then taking the boys to a Make a Wish event (Fire, Water, & Ice Festival) in SLC at Oquirrh Park and Sunday, I want to take a nap! Yes I know I sound obsessed with sleep! I have good reason for that...I just got home from girl's camp...AKA a "sleepless week of NO sleep!" (but oh so fun!)

1. My favorite bedtime attire is comfy shorts and a comfy shirt in the summer and warm and soft fleece lounge pants in the winter.

2. The perfect meal would include lasagna with a hearty side of green salad and garlic bread and a big glass of ice water. And of course some kind of gooey chocolate dessert!

3. The most memorable girl's night out I've ever had was when me and my sister-in-laws had our annual Sister's Fling and we dressed up like Gilligan's Island characters (I was Maryann) and we had a fabulous non-talent show. Good memories of that one!!! That was in 1999 (or around there) I was a-hem-years-old.

4. My earliest memory is for that one go here.

5. The family is gone for the evening and I will spend my time that's a toss up between watching a video, shopping, or cleaning the house. I like to clean when no one is around and I know it will stay that way for at least a little while!

6. Right now I am blogging while watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.

7. When I am done blogging, I am going to bed!!! Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

Good Mail!

Woo-hoo! I LOVE Good Mail!

I got some real cute note cards from Debbie along with some Juicy Fruit! Don't ya just love that gum?

Cupcake Kelli sent me some HEAVENLY Caribbean Beach Bread Mix! I made it and it is to die for! Sorry no photos...the boys had it gone before it cooled down! It was
D-licious!

Thanks Debbie and Kelli!

Oh and btw my Good Mail peeps...I know I have been a real slacker with the Good Mail posting and mailing...but mine is in the works. Just so ya know!

I'm Heading to One Great Big Slumber Party!

AKA: GIRL'S CAMP!!!

Yes, I am leaving for girl's camp in the morning! Can I just say I LOVE girl's camp?! Maybe it's because I live in a testosterone zone at home. Or maybe it's because I love being surrounded by great women and girls. But I think it's mostly because it's just so stinkin' much FUN!
Last year was SO much fun and since that was before I started a blog, here are some highlights:

This is me and my good friend Jen getting quite the workout on these paddle boats! Holly can't even make us that sore!

We had lots of fun contests! This one consisted of shaving cream, a balloon, a razor, and a steady hand! click to enlarge Me and Jacquie won this one! Woo-hoo! We are the second ones over. *I am wearing that stupid hat because it was my birthday and they MADE ME! ALL DAY!

Posted by Picasa

The whole group! We went to Heber Valley Camp. It was awesome! It is owned by the church and we were lucky to be able to get a turn to go!

Everyday (and night!) was a party!!!

Like I said, it was my birthday while I was there. Me and my lovely birthday hat! The treasure chest is a cake! Isn't it cool!!!!? The girls decorated my bed for my birthday. How sweet! I just love them all! They really are awesome!

*More partying until the wee hours of the morn... *Oops, it looks like I put two of the same one. Same shot of the leaders. * I was totally retarded at jump rope! Not sure why, I used to do it in grade school!

Holly, Jen, Me, and Audrey on the lake. We were SO happy we didn't get tipped over!

*The first shot is one we took of the girls that we put night crawlers in their water bottle. We were walking behind them waiting for them to drink it! And THEY did! For that story go here!
*Tammy and Julie in the paddle boats. *It was a stake camp and I saw two of my nieces up there too! *The last pix is of more crazies!

I am sooooooooooooooooo excited for this week!!!!
It's been so crazy, I'm still not packed!!!!

Happy Birthday to Me!

It's my birthday and I can cry blog if I want to!

Yeps, I am celebrating another year of being alive! I know it is normal to NOT like having birthdays when you start getting up there like I am, but when you consider the alternative...it's actually not that bad! It's better to be OVER the HILL than UNDER the HILL don't ya think?

Today I turn 40 plus... eh-hem... some odd years. I was actually going to write my true age, but my fingers just would not punch those keys. Sorry, I tried. But what can I do when they refuse to touch certain keys? But if you do the math, and the average life span is 90 or so, then I am somewhere about middle aged! WHAT? ME? No way! But then again, I never was very good at math anyway.

Now, except for my eyes not being able to read anything smaller than a billboard unless it's 20 feet away, and not being able to watch a rented movie without falling asleep, and extensive short term memory loss, and wanting to break out in a dance when I hear a disco song, and an appreciation for rocking chairs, and trying to explain to my 11 year old what an 8 track tape is... I truthfully don't FEEL old. I still feel like I did when I was 18!

However, I think the fact that I even know what "leg warmers" are qualifies me as an “old duffer"

The reality is getting older comes whether we like it or not and there really is nothing we can do about it. Looking in the mirror (at least for me) confirms that on a daily basis! Sooner or later we all have to face the fact that we are getting older. The sooner we accept that it's inevitable, the more we can enjoy life! No, it is not easy to come to terms with our bodies and faces aging and looking more and more like the people we used to think were "old", (I've noticed that my idea of what age 'old age' is just keeps going up the older I get!), but there are some perks to aging too. Here are just a few of my reasons for celebrating getting yet another year older.

♥ I am at a point where I am my own person and I don't care so much about what other people think anymore. What a liberating feeling! Go ahead, say what you want...I can take it!
♥ Many good things come ONLY with time. Life long friends, wisdom that can be learned only by experience, memories of a life well lived, etc.
♥ I love myself for who I am and I have quit trying to be who I am not.
♥ I have seen enough family and friends leave this world that I have learned that life really is short and you must treasure and cherish each and every day as the amazing gift that it really is.
♥ I have learned to worry less because it is an act of total futility to worry about things I have no control over.
♥ I no longer feel as competitive as I once did with others in my circle of friends and acquaintances. I am able to celebrate their successes just as much as my own.
♥ Even though trials and tribulations are tough, I am grateful for the priceless lessons they have taught me and I no longer fear them.
♥ I have come to understand that everything will eventually work out for the best.
♥ Though it has taken me a while to finally grasp it, one of the greatest things about getting older is the fact that I have finally come to realize that happiness is a choice. A daily choice. It is not something that just happens to us, but something that we choose for ourselves. I really wish I had known that sooner.
♥ Instead of wishing to change the cards I have been dealt in life, I am very grateful for the ones I have. The grass is not always greener. Or even if it is, greener grass is the hardest to mow.
♥ Being grateful...truly grateful, breeds happiness!

The only thing that brings the above "gifts" are years lived. There is no short cut to obtaining them. No luck. Just years. So as our physical bodies age, at least there is peace in knowing that our spirits will flourish with some pretty awesome wisdom that can be gained no other way. So see? Getting older isn't so bad after all!!!
And just in case that didn't convince you, here are 13 other reasons having another birthday isn't so bad. ☺

13 GREAT THINGS ABOUT GETTING OLDAnnonymous1. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
2. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
3. It's harder and harder for sexual harassment charges to stick.
4. If you've never smoked, you can start now and it won't have time to hurt you.
5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
6. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them, either.
7. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
8. Your eyes won't get much worse.
9. Things you buy now won't wear out.
10. No one expects you to run into a burning building.
11. There's nothing left to learn the hard way.
12. Your joints are more accurate than the National Weather Service.
13. In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.
And in case that didn't give you a laugh, then THESE photos will! Yes, I have decided to torture my readers with a few photos from my stages of youth...yep, I was young once!!! And HERE is the proof!

Ahh... now that's a face even a mother could love!

*1~That is my brother Jerry sharing the horse with me. Kinda appears I'd prefer to buck him off! *2~Gold Shoes? Gotta start em' young! *3~I think in this one he is really pinching me behind my back! (jk bro!) *4~Can't you just see the mischief in those eyes?

Most of these are of me and my brother. I always had long hair with the exception of this age when a beautician whacked it all off! I wanted it cut to my shoulders but she butched me. I thought I looked like a boy and locked myself in the bathroom and cried for two hours! As a result of that trauma, it's pretty much been long ever since. Take a look at the bottom left photo. It's me at a birthday party. I am the one on the bottom row far left. Check out the dress! (click to enlarge) I think I must have been the one to start the mini skirt fad! We all look a little less than thrilled to be there! Must have been some kind of party! Half of them look like they are about to burst in tears or already have! Good laughs! Notice the lone little boy in the tie. Poor kid! He probably got teased for days!

These are from my geeky stage! Oooooh bad! REALLY bad!

Dancing and twirling started pretty young with me. I spent a LOT of time doing that!

This Picasa program is great for cutting off heads! (anyone know how to change that?)

*1~Top photo is about 8th grade...still in "that" stage! Don't think I overcame it until college! *2~Junior in high school. Whoa...that is some glare!*3 ~One of my first jobs was at Burger King and look WHO dropped by to have it HIS way! *4~ High School graduation day *5~ Me and my friend Jody in London with the Rifle Corp *6~ College graduation (AAS degree) *7 ~ Folk Dancer at Weber State *8~ I attended Dixie College for a while *9 ~College

More head chops! I couldn't resist adding these because I KNOW some of you out there have some photos of yourself with the Farrah hair too! You know who you are...so fess up!!!

Some of my friends took me out to lunch on Thursday. We had a good time!

(Around the table from left) Julie, Audrey & Calel, Julie, Marilyn, Holly, Jen, Loraine, Me, Heidi

Today my friend Bonnie took me out for my birthday to see the movie Mamma Mia! Oh, what a great flick! It was a feel good movie and I have to say I loved it! I think the music totally made the film. Meryl Streep did an amazing job as well. Not sure if the hubs would enjoy it all that much, but we sure did! It has a mature theme and probably not for the kids. But if you like ABBA, you are gonna love this one! It made me want to get up, grab a mic, and dance in the aisles! I can't wait to see it again! And dang! I forgot my camera! Gonna get ya next time Bonnie!

After the movie, I came home and opened my presents from my fam! I also got a lot of great gifts from my friends that I will have to take photos of and post later. Thanks guys! Then we went out to eat at the Olive Garden! Mmm...mmm...mmmmmmm!

Ahh....gee...you shouldn't have! (but glad you did anyway!!!) ☺
I was secretly hoping there was a real puppy inside this one! But no such luck!

Partying at Olive Garden with my fam and parents! Yum!

No I am not standing by the wine rack because I am choosing my fav. All I want is their Chocolate Almond Amore' drink....virgin style. It is TO. DIE. FOR. We all shared a couple! McKay was enjoying the birthday cake my Mom brought for me!

In case I didn't get enough cheese....here's little more!
Yes, ANOTHER cake! Good thing I did my 10 mile long run this morning! That's one of the best things about my birthday...I don't have to make and decorate a cake! My SIL Linda and I share our birthday! BUT...she is a WHOLE year older and I might add, ALWAYS will be! hee-hee
Happy Birthday Linda!!!A good day! Thanks y'all!

Friday's Feast & Friday Fill In☺

The Friday Feast Chef is still out of the kitchen, so I posted my own questions again this week. Feel free to join in!!!

AppetizerIf you learned today you were going to die tomorrow, name three things you would do.
First, I would gather my family and friends around me and tell them how much I love them. Second, I would write a personal letter to each of my sons and tell them all the things that I wanted to make sure I taught them in case I didn't. Third, I would make sure I made everything right with the Lord (or would that be considered death bed repentance?!! Hmm....:O)
Soup
What is your very first memory? It was the first day of kindergarten. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to ride the bus home and I remember being so scared while I was waiting outside the school because I didn't know what I should do. I started to cry. After a bit of a panic I saw my mom! I remember the huge feeling of relief that came over me!

Salad Name one service you are willing to pay for and one you are not.
I am willing to pay for most things, but my hubby is not. He is a do it yourself kind of guy. I am MORE than willing to pay to have my windows professionally cleaned regularly but he just isn't. I used to be willing to pay for a pedicure until my last one. Go here for that story. I decided I can do my own better and cheaper! I have thought about hiring someone to come in and help with the house or to just do the deep cleaning (baseboards, shutters, etc., all those things that are hard to get to) but knowing me, I am afraid I would end up thoroughly cleaning my whole house before they came! I do pay a hair stylist for me and I am very willing to do that, but I cut my boy's hair. I definitely would not be willing to pay for someone to cut my lawn. That would be insane! I have a house full of men for crying out loud!
Main Course
Do you make your bed every day?Never! Well, almost never. My hubby took it upon himself about four years ago to do that for me every single day! Yes, I know I am one lucky ducky!

Dessert
Name the most significant thing you learned this week.Don't give advice unless you know it is going to work!

1. If I could travel back in time, I'd go to the Holy Land so I could watch the Savior in action.
2. Give me chocolate or give me MORE chocolate!
3. I am listening to the hum of the computer.
4. Somewhere, someone is thinking I really should go to bed...(that someone is me!)
5. I'll always be young at heart!♥
6. My idea of a good time includes good friends, good food, and good laughs!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to no real plans yet, other than going to a bridal shower, but hopefully after that I will hang out with my fam and watching a movie or something, tomorrow my plans include getting in my long run, going to Brooke's baby shower (she was Tyson's friend) with my Mom, going to see Mama Mia with my friend Bonnie, and going to Olive Garden with my whole fam to celebrate my birthday!!! Mmm....and Sunday, I want to what else....relax!!! Well, I just remembered I have to get a ton of stuff to get prepared for girl's camp, so not sure the relaxing is gonna happen... again!
