Parent Pay Day!

Friday was a huge Parent
for Dave and I!
It was one of those rare days when all that being a parent entails (yes you all know what I am talking about!) makes it all seem worth it!
Bryce was awarded

Academic All State
in Football!!!

It was presented to him at the State 4A Championship Football Game at the University of Utah during half time. He was the only one in his high school to receive it and only one of eleven other boys from the entire 4A region.

The honor is awarded based on athletic ability and academic achievement. The entire group of football players that received it this year in his region all have a
4.0 GPA!
(cumulative from 9th grade on)
A difficult feat just in itself...

Okay, so YES I am a proud mom! I would apologize for being so, but I am the mom! So why would I do THAT????

Here are some shots of the amazing day!

*Bryce watching the game before half time *Me and Bryce waiting for the award presentation *Bryce with Dave waiting *Bryce with the other award winners before half time

We took this just as we arrived. It was a beautiful day!

*More shots of waiting with the crowd in the background

*Here they are as they were being announced onto the field. The one in the uniform had been playing in the game.
Walking onto the field. The crowd went wild after they announced who they were.

What a bunch of studs!!! Bryce is on the far right.

The proud parents! Isn't he just a stud??? Yeah, Bryce isn't too bad either! hee hee

I made him pose in front of the Olympic signs outside the stadium because I thought that would be cool for memory sake!

I TRIED to video the whole thing BUT it didn't happen! UGH! Oh well, I got SOME of it (about 5 seconds!) ↓ This was after they had all been presented their awards individually. I didn't get them announcing his name...dang!

This very short one ↓ the announcer was explaining about how they all earned the award and when he said they all have a GPA of 4.0 the crowd went wild....YEP....I missed it on video!
I think my camera says it's recording and it doesn't start recording until after about 5 seconds.

We took him out to eat after to...

I ♥LOVE ♥LOVE ♥LOVE♥ this place!
Thankfully so does Bryce and he choose it!

It just doesn't get ANY better than this!!!! Are you drooling yet?
It's always nice to end a Payday with a happy tummy!

My answers:

Breakfast
How do you usually spend Thanksgiving?
I usually watch the Macey's Parade and then make whatever it is we are taking for the meal. We then either go to my parents or Dave's parents. We rotate each year. This year we are eating at my parents house with them and my brother's family. After we eat, we visit or play games together. When we get home from that we usually watch a movie on TV (always seems to be The Sound of Music or an 0ld Christmas show.) At least I do...the boys usually go play Nintendo rather than watch!

Lunch
What is the one thing you are most grateful for this year?
My Savior

Dinner
Do you usually shop on Black Friday or avoid it like the plague?
Oh yes I always shop it! I usually get up about 4: 30 a.m. or even earlier to hit the great early bird sales. It's insane I know! Skyler used to go with me when he was home or I would meet my mom or Dave's sisters later. Last year I went alone and it was no fun. I REALLY hate the long lines and all the people, but it is exciting to get what you are looking for at such a great deal. The past two or three years though, I haven't found it enticing enough to go really early. Most of the sales the past couple of years haven't been all that great. But I always have to go sometime before noon or I feel like I missed out on some great deal!

Midnight Snack
What is your favorite part of the Thanksgiving feast?
Candied yams topped with toasted marshmellows! Mmmm...... And of course I LOVE the turkey (white meat only!)

Recipe for this Week (instead of your recipe for life - what is it for just this week?) Don't give up when things seem hard. There is always strength greater than my own waiting to be given to me if I just ask.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The last band I saw live was Josh Groban (not exactly a live band -though he did have one- but it was the last live concert I went to.)
2. What I look forward to most on Thanksgiving is being with family and the yummy smells!
3. My Christmas/holiday shopping is well on it's way this year. Not done, but getting close! Yea!
4. Thoughts of hope right now fill my head.
5. I wish I could wear shorts again, because then it would still be warm weather!
6. Bagpipes sound beautiful!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to attending the state high school championship game where Bryce will be presented his Academic All State award during half time, then rushing back to Taylor's first basketball game, tomorrow my plans include running the Turkey Trot (4 mile race), eating dinner with the visiting General Authority (Elder Hamula) for our stake conference (our Bishop & his wife are unable to attend and so we were invited in their place), then attending the adult stake conference meeting and Sunday, I want to attend Stake Conference and learn a lot!
Young Women in Excellence
Two posts in one day! Wow... Remember what I said about blogorrhea??? ☺
Our Young Women in Excellence theme this year was based around the Olympics. This is a night where the girls get to shine and show what they have been working on all year with their Personal Progress. It was a lot of fun! The girls have been working hard!
This is the cake I made for the refreshments ↓
These shots below are of Dave and Cole trying to retrieve a bunch of balloons that accidently got away from us BEFORE the meeting! Dave rigged up an interesting device to be able to reach them and then grab them with duct tape. It was pretty ingenious! They got them ALL down and saved the day! An olympic event in and of itself! Gold medal effort for sure!
*The gold and silver medals (they are wrapped up cookies the girls made).
*Brooke and Cole were the MC's and did a great job.
*The Bishop speaking (his talk was amazing!)
*The silver medalists
*The gold medalists (these are the girls and leaders that earned their Young Womanhood recognition during the year---not an easy feat!)
*Yours truly speaking
*Me, Loraine, Tammy, and Jen with our GOLD MEDALS! ↓ We earned them! I really miss these women! And the fun we always had! They are now serving in other organizations...:(
*The bottom right is our Stake YW leaders (Lynda and Michelle) that came to support us. They are great!
*Me and Steph (one of my Laurels)
*The hula hoop shots were taken AFTER everyone else left and we were cleaning up. This is what happens after hours. Dave took the photos but seemed to miss the other FIVE or SIX people that were also making fools of themselves! At least Jen is in there!
Dave and I with my Gold Medal.
When they earn their award, they get a real nice medallion too.
It was a great night. The Beehives and their leaders were in charge and it was so nice to not have to worry about a thing, knowing it would be wonderful. And it was! I have great girls and amazing leaders!
Thoughts About Thoughts
Lately I've had a lot of thoughts on thoughts. I've even thought that I think I thought that I thought that thoughts are thought before I thought they were thoughts.
Thoughtful I know.
The last year or so, I have been enthralled with the amazing power of our thoughts. I have spent a lot of time studying the way our thoughts work. I believe the law of attraction is a real thing and that we really do attract things into our lives simply through our thoughts. I truly believe that as it states in Proverbs 23:7 - "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." What we think about regularly, we create as our reality. If we change our thinking we change our life.
We have the power to consciously CHOOSE our thoughts or let them aimlessly run our lives. When a thought pops into our heads, there is a time delay before the thoughts can take up residence and make themselves comfortable. We are given that time-delay, a pause, a second chance to invite them in to stay and make themselves at home or to tell them to GET LOST! Isn't that a great blessing?
It is sooooo easy to to get trapped into aimless thinking. To let all the thoughts that cross our mind stay and visit for at least a while. Our minds can wander and when they do it seems those negative, destructive thoughts take over as the travel agents of our minds and begin calling all the shots.
Our thoughts really do have the power to take control of our lives. Literally! It is easy to get side-tracked and remain on auto-pilot thinking. That is unless we CHOOSE to re-direct those travel plans and send them on their way not allowing entrance inside our minds without a proper passport.
The good news is WE CHOOSE which direction they will go.
Our thoughts really do bring forth the conditions of the life we experience, whether it be good or bad. We can be the master (travel agent) of our thoughts and take them where we want (or don't want) them to go. It isn't always easy and it takes some work, but it can be done.
Here are few of my favorite thoughts that others have thought on thoughts☺
"There is a vast difference between having a thought and thinking. All kinds of unwanted thoughts can knock at the door of our mind, but if we don't let them in, they leave us alone. But in thinking, we are imbuing a thought with life energy. We open wide the door and sit that thought down to dinner. When a thought of cynicism, resentment or vindication comes calling, what do you do? Do you bolt the door or do you lay out a smorgasbord? Just remember that the thoughts you entertain not only grow life in you, they become the life that you're living."
- Mary Manin Morrissey
Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image. What we continually think about eventually will manifest in our lives.
- Sidney Madwed
"Our thoughts create our reality -- where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go.”Peter McWilliams
"When all evil thought harasses the mind, the best method of conquering it is by ignoring it. How can we ignore an evil thought? By forgetting it. How can we forget? By not indulging in it again, and also by not brooding over it. How can we prevent the mind from indulging in it again or brooding over it? By thinking of something very interesting, something sublime and inspiring. Ignore, forget, think of something inspiring."
-Sri Swami Sivananda
“When I want to think of things more pleasant, I close the cupboards of my mind revealing the more unpleasant things of life, and open up the cupboards containing the more pleasant thoughts. If I want to sleep, I close up all the cupboards of mind!”
-Napolean
"At first a wrong thought enters the mind. Then you entertain a strong imagination. You take delight in dwelling on that wrong thought. You give consent to its stay in the mind, and gradually the wrong thought, when it is not resisted, takes a strong hold in your mind. Then it becomes very difficult to drive it off. The proverb goes: “Give a rogue an inch and he will take an ell.” This is true of wrong thoughts also."
- Sri Swami Sivananda
"You have powers you never dreamed of. You can do things you never thought you could do. There are no limitations in what you can do except the limitations of your own mind."
- Darwin P. Kingsley
"Remember, happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely upon what you think."
- Dale Carnegie
"The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking."
- Albert Einstein
“Such as are your habitual thoughts, such also will be the character of your mind; for the soul is dyed by the thoughts”
-Marcus Aurelius, Roman Empereor (AD 121-180)
Did this spur a thought or two? Are you thinking that you thought you thought that you thought that thinking was so thoughtful? Well, if so, be thoughtful and leave a thought! ☺
Just a thought...
