Weekly recap of my rather crazy, insane, but fun and rewarding life!
Sorry not much journaling on this trip.
Posting about three years later and these two days were the only ones done, so now just adding photos!
BOYMOM VACAY!
dear monday, we flew on a red eye and landed in Anchorage about 12:30 a.m. I think. I didn't sleep on the plane. I did watch a few good movies though. I saw When I Fall and Born In China (a cute documentary about Pandas and other Chinese animals), and unfortunately I can't remember the name of the other one. We were all beat and hungry when we landed. We grabbed the rental car and headed on the three hour drive to Sterling. The road is so narrow and cars go so fast. I was holding on for dear life and couldn't sleep. But, we made it! Whew! The cabin looked the same. The air in Alaska smells so good! It smells foresty! Yummy. It's like when you are in Hawaii and it smells tropical. Love it. We all went to bed and tried to rest for awhile. Dave had to get up three hours later to go pick up Taylor from the Kenai airport because he was flying from Hawaii. It was great to see Taylor! I haven't seen him since May! We then made a big breakfast and headed to Homer to check out the fishing. We loaded up the big red hippy van and the boat. Dave and I drove the rental. Homer is almost two hours away. It was chilly and really windy. I was cold but it was a nice respite from the 100's we have had back home. We tried fishing on the shore but got nothing. We stopped on the boardwalk and got some really good pizza. There was a dog there that looked exactly like a bear! Especially from far away! Dave had the boys take the rubber boat (with a motor) out to Halibut Cove and see what they could find. They found a lighthouse! Dave and I walked along the boardwalk and shopped and watched the charter places clean fish. The pier was gorgeous! I had to have my picture taken by the same fish I did five years ago. We drove home and stopped at Fred Meyer's to load up on groceries. It was dark until 11:30 pm.
dear tuesday, everyone was so tired and so we slept in. I headed out on a run about 9:00 a.m. It was really pretty. I took some pix of some sights. I wasn't afraid of bears this time because I stayed on the main road. We had breakfast and then loaded up to go try out the salmon fishing. We stopped at the hardware store to get Taylor some waders. Dave's leaked.
I was TRYING to be brave and pose for a photo with this wild fish!
Not too bad...
McKay helped me to actually HOLD the thing in my fingers which I did five years ago when we came last. It is NOT easy for me, and NOT fun, BUT....
SUCCESS!!!
These dogs were SAVAGE! They were growling at me and racing towards me at one point. I had to yell, "GO HOME!!!" really loud several times and they still came. I was getting pretty nervous and then finally they turned the other way as if they were perfect angels.
Dave caught a heart shaped rock!!! Just for me I guess! LOL Pretty cool though!
These things kept wrapping around my leg and getting stuck in my hook. I got BRAVE and bare handed unhooked the slimy thing!!! YUCK! Not fun!
There is an eagle in this tree
This was at the dump! Too crazy!
Taylor celebrated his 24th birthday while we were there. I made him a cake. Nothing fancy but he loves red velvet and Fun-fetti frosting and so that is what he got.
