ELECTION

Breakfast ~ Did you vote this year?  If so, did you vote early and how long were the lines? Yes!  I voted early and I did have to stand in a line of about 10 people. I was so grateful I voted early because on election day the lines were extremely long!
Lunch ~ Did you stay up and watch until the winner was announced? I stayed up until about 11:30 p.m. when I was about 99% sure who the winner was.  I would have stayed up longer, but I fell asleep watching.  Dave stayed up much later than me.
Dinner ~ Do you vote straight party or cross party lines? I go down each candidate individually, but I do believe this year I ended up voting for my party on each candidate.
Midnight Snack ~ Was there a particular issue on the ballot this year (local or national) that concerned you? Yes, I was really hoping that our city bond would pass to bring in an indoor rec center.  But unfortunately, it didn't passI'm sure it didn't because it would have increased property tax and most people wouldn't benefit from it.  I personally was really hoping it would pass because I would LOVE to have an indoor running track in the winter!  Guess I need to recruit more people to run in this town!
Recipe for the Week ~ (instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for the week?)
This week has been quite a sad one to see so many people forget they are Americans.  Our country has always accepted the results of a new president with grace and maturity but this one has divided our country and quite frankly made us look like little spoiled children in the eyes of the rest of the world.  I have been so disappointed with the way many have chosen to respond to the results.  We live in AMERICA!  We have the right to choose WHO we want as our leader.  Because we live in a free country, and because we are blessed to choose, that also means we need to be willing to accept what the final outcome is even if it isn't what we wanted.  We need to REMEMBER WHO WE ARE!  Especially at this moment!

Historical Day

Today's election would have been history making no matter the outcome. Either way we would have had our first black President or our first woman vice president. I was hoping for the latter, but now that Barack Obama has been elected, it is time to unite as a nation and respect at least the office, if not the man. I for one will really have to work hard on that, but I know what's done is done and so it's time to come together as a nation. I wasn't even going to do a post when the outcome was confirmed, but history is history and this is definitely HISTORY!

In his victory speech Barack Obama stated, "We have never been a collection of red states and blue states. We are, and always will be, the United States of America." I hope he is right. This has been a really divisive race for our country. He also vowed to be a president for all America, even those who voted against him, and asked for patience to address the nation's problems of war and finance that he called the greatest challenges of a lifetime. Yes it will be a challenge, and I pray that he is up to this VERY daunting task.

The hardest thing for me was knowing that now Sarah Palin's opportunity to implement the changes she wanted to be established are no longer a possibility. At least that was until I read that she is considering a presidential run in 2012! We can only hope! She already has my vote.

Even though I may not be thrilled with the outcome of today's election, one thing is for sure...I am very blessed to live in a country where I have the freedom to vote for who leads this country. I am given a choice. What a wonderful blessing that is. It is one of the greatest privileges of being an American. May God truly bless America!!!
