One Word 2021

It's that time of year again!  This year I had several choices that I was considering for my One Word for 2021. Grace was one of them, as well as believe.  I really thought it would be grace, but then the word I ended up choosing just dropped into my lap like it seems to do every year.  It just confirms to me that there are greater powers that know better than I what my word should be.

So the word I selected is....

Drum roll please....

I am going to make you wait just one teeny tiny second before I reveal it.  Why?  Because I always have to honor my past ONE WORDS first. You know me and traditions!

Here are my past words starting with 2013:

2019

My word for 2020 was
Had I ENVISIONED what 2020 was really going to be like I might have chosen a different word!  Ya know like, BEWARE!!!  What a ride it was!

Okay without further ado, here is my new word for 2021!!!!

NOW, cue the drum roll...

I have chosen the word:

I truly believe this word found me because when it first appeared and I did some research almost every single definition of it had the other two words I was considering (grace and believe) as part of the description of the word.  That is when it was confirmed to me that it was MY WORD!

This little acronym is really why I felt strongly it needed to be my word.
Each one of these things (above) are things I really want to improve on this year.  I truly want to abide in His word and in His love and in His presence more.
  • I want to ASK for guidance more for myself and for others.
  • I want to have complete faith and BELIEVE He will answer my petitions.
  • I want to INVEST more time into studying His word and meditating on it more.
  • I want my attention to be focused and DIRECTED to HIM when I have to make a decision or I am in fear of something.
  • I truly want to ENJOY His presence more by inviting it to be there with me in all things.
I definitely feel like I have room for improvement in each of these areas and I am excited to see how things will change when I put my focus on these things for the reason to become closer to my Savior instead of these things being something I check off on a To Do list.

I hope as I ABIDE in Him, that He in turn will ABIDE in me.

I am looking forward to this year and what this word will teach me!

What is your ONE WORD?

BEGIN... just BEGIN (One Word)

The word BEGIN is in the running to be my word of the year for 2014...

Other contenders are:  DOWNSIZE and PRODUCTIVE.  Yes I know it's already February, which is exactly why I am seriously thinking BEGIN might be the winner!  Oh, the irony!

What is One Little Word You Want to Improve On for the Next Year? ~ Day 9

ONE word?

WOW!

No, "wow" is not it... I just said that because this is a loaded question.  I've had to really think about this one.  There are just so many things that need improvement in my life, that it was tough to narrow it down!

I threw around several as I was trying to come up with just ONE word...
  • Patience
  • Accomplish
  • Productive
  • Timely
  • Declutter
  • Sanctify
  • Knowledge
  • Unselfish
  • Calm
  • Priorities
  • Finish
  • Do
  • Embrace
  • Gratitude
  • Delight
  • Balance
  • Start
  • Serenity
  • Shine
  • Present
  • Harmony
  • Begin
  • Rivet
  • Concentrate
  • Render
  • Complete
  • Intention
  • Priorities
  • Focus
I even made a Wordle of my choices....

A lot of my words are in the same family.  It is apparent that I am trying to be more productive and efficient.  I feel like I have so many good intentions and so many things that I need to do, but I am not always getting them done.  I then think I just need more hours in the day and I could accomplish more.  But I think it really boils down to what I choose to do and not do.  I really need to focus on what needs to be done and take care of things when they need it, rather than when it's more convenient for me.  I have a lot of things hanging over my head all the time because I don't just DO them.  I need more balance in my life.  I need to be more in focus and live in the present moment.  And I just need to DO it.

Like I said, I really gave this a lot of thought because I truly believe there is power in words and maybe even more so in just ONE word.  Especially if that one word becomes our focus.  It will get imbedded into our sub-conscience and we will start to see results just because it has become our focus.  I am firm believer in goals and I can testify that when we write our goals down and read them frequently they almost magically come to pass.  I suspect the same thing will happen with this one word logic.

I narrowed my choice down to four:
Balance
Present
Focus
Do

After really thinking it through, I decided that DO was my word of choice.  It encompasses most of the other three above and it really is what I need to concentrate on.
Since I have chosen this word, I have already noticed a difference.  When I need to get to something, rather than just shoving it aside thinking I will get to it asap, it is becoming easier to not be so distracted and to just focus on doing it.

I also learned from doing this challenge that there is a book written called, "One Word That Will Change Your Life."  The authors noticed how most people's New Year's Resolutions would crash and burn by about the third month of the year and be almost non existent for most by the end of December and so they came up with the idea to choose just one word for the year instead of a whole list of resolutions that seem to be broken anyway.  It is an interesting concept and one that I think I will adapt from now on.  I gave up on New Year's Resolutions a long time ago because they only frustrated me when I didn't have the success I hoped for.  I really like the idea of focusing on one word because it's so much more do-able than an entire list.  Especially if that word is chosen well and it encompasses many other aspects of your life.  There is a great article on the book and the authors HERE.

I am excited about this challenge and hope to report later that my choice of words was the right one!

I'm off to go DO!
