One Word for 2016

As I have said before, instead of a long list of New Year's resolutions that seem to go by the wayside before February has even arrived, I now choose ONE word to focus on the entire year.  It really has been a great thing for me because I keep that word in my mind all year and by the end of the year I can see a lot of progress.  I will still think of things that I want to be better at during the year that I need to work on that isn't related to my one word, but I no longer put the pressure on myself to accomplish an entire list of personal improvements because then I get discouraged when I fail to achieve all of them and I feel worse than if I hadn't even tried.

SO.......

What is this year's word going to be?

My ONE WORD that I chose for the past few years have been:

And for 2016 the ONE WORD I have chosen is: (drum roll please...)
Purge – to rid of whatever is impure or undesirable; cleanse; purify. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm‬ ‭51:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬
In 2016 my goal is to purge Orr rid myself of the undesirable and unnecessary things in my life. Whether that be extra clothing, weight, clutter, wasted time, gossip…the things unpleasant in His sight…I choose to purge in 2016 so that He can use me more effectively for His Honor and His Glory!

Purge to rid of whatever is impure or undesirable; cleanse; purify.  "Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a right spirit within me."  Pslam 51:10

My goal for 2016 is to purge (or rid myself of) the things that are unnecessary in my life.  Whether that be clutter, wasted time, worry, stress, clothing, "STUFF", bad habits....all things that I truly do not NEED.
It was really easy this year to come up with my one word.  In years past it has not been this easy.  I KNOW that it's time for me to really make a dent in the clutter that has accumulated in my life. I have a lot of unnecessary STUFF that needs to go!!!  I have so much STUFF and is really weighing on my mind lately.  I need to let it go so I can feel peace again. My goal is to start with the physical STUFF and once I make a dent in that then I know the non physical stuff will be much easier to purge.  My goal is to get rid of at least 25% of my stuff.  That is a lofty goal I know, but truth be told, I really need to get rid of 50% of it!  But I know I need to be realistic and so I will be happy if I can get rid of the 25%!

I plan to read and study this book before I even attempt to do it.  I have heard great things about it and I need some motivation to get me going.
I am excited to change my way of thinking and hopefully break this habit of accumulating so many things that are not necessary in my life.  I LOVE to shop and because of that I have things that have monetary value but that I just don't need.  I hang onto them because they are either new or could be useful or are worth something even though I no longer need them.  I have a lot of good stuff.  But they are cluttering my mind as much as my house.  I need them gone.  It's not going to be easy, but I am motivated to do it.  They can bless someone else that needs them more.

My plan is to tackle at least one area five days a week...whether that be just a single drawer or cupboard, but if I can do that then I will be on my way.

Thanks Audrey! I will NEED a lot of luck to make this happen. But even if I only manage to succeed at half of my goal, that is still progress!

I love your word Nancy! That is a great choice!

Your one word is a great idea. I like it! I tried getting rid of things this past year and felt good when I did but then started missing some of the things I had gotten rid of....crazy but I know you understand. :)
