Happy Birthday Dad!!!

Myspace Comments

Today is my Dad's birthday! Yes I know it seems like I have been doing a lot of birthday posts and that's because I have! Lots of birthdays lately!

I hope you enjoy a little peek into the life of one of the greatest human beings I know...my Dad!

These photos are him with his dad and older brother Jerry. He also has two sisters, but I don't have any photos of them as kids.

(clockwise)↓
*His dad and brother Jerry

*Him and his mother Helen
*He be "stylin'" with that seriously hip polyester outfit that matches SO well! ;o)
*He is always fixing, repairing, building, or re-making something! His garage is always meticulously organized and clean. You could eat off the floor. His cars are the same. He could own a car for ten years and then sell it looking brand new inside and out!

He served in the army during the Korean War. Maybe that's where the Mr. Clean in him was born. He spent some time in Germany while in the service.

He married my Mom in 1958. He worked at various places and later retired from Hill Air Force Base as an electrician. My parents moved a lot. We lived in California (Concord, Eureka, Stockton), in Nevada (Sparks), in South Ogden (Washington Terrace), in Farr West, and they most recently moved to a condo in the North Ogden area.

*He loved to fish and we spent a lot of time during my growing up years at one lake or another almost every single weekend.
*Me and him at my high school graduation
*Our fam. ~ Me, Mom, Jerry, Dad
*He hunted quite a bit, but I don't think he really enjoyed it because he quit going. Probably because I had a fit whenever he brought home one of those poor little deer with the BIG brown sad eyes!

*Did I mention he loved to fish?
*Halloween ~ that is my mom and him! Scary! Surprised I wasn't scarred for life!
*Mr. Brady has been cloned!!!

*He has a great sense of humor (obviously) and everythings always more fun with him around.
*On a camping trip with his peeps trying to remove ear wax. Haven't they heard of doctors? ;o)
*The mighty masked caper
*My parents used to square dance and they weren't even square! In fact, they were really good!
Glitter Graphics

My parents love to go camping and we spent a lot of weekends in the mountains. I have great memories of those days. They now go to Beaver Dam in the winter for a couple of months each year (or more) with a bunch of friends to get out of the freezin' temps here! Lucky ducks!

My Dad is a handy man and can do ANYTHING! He is building his shed in a couple of these shots. When we built our house, he did all the electrical work and helped us with so many other things.

*My Dad LOVES to golf! Or maybe it would be more appropriate to say he is slightly obsessed with it! He lives for it. He breaths for it. He sleeps for it. He eats for it. Okay maybe I am exagerrating just a tad...or maybe not! Which is all good, because he is very talented. He even makes and sells golf clubs sometimes. As you can see in the photo, he also gets his grandkids started young!

*Stylin' in Hawaii

*Having good times with friends and family (his sister Gay is in the front with black hair and his sister Sharon is right behind her)

It's all about the head-dress↓ (click to enlarge)

My Dad is the funnest grandpa!!! He goes by a few names associated with that, i.e. Grampy, Popsie, Papo.
*When Tyson had a long hospital stay, he would always come up and spend the night with him once in a while so Dave and I could have a break and be able to spend some time with the other boys. Tyson loved it when he came.
*The boys love to rough house (work over) with him.
More fun times! (click to enlarge)

The fam 1997 ↓ Look at my McKay! He was a newborn -only three weeks old!

The fam 2004 ↓

The golfer man! This is what he spends a lot of time doing when it's warm enough (and even when it's not!)

He and my Mom celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July this past year. The reception was held at the golf course club house (come on...where else?!) The celebration would not have been complete without a decorated golf cart for him to whisk my Mom away on a romantic tour of the greens! (loaded down with grandkids!) ;o)

One of the highlights of his life was meeting Johnny Miller. He has this framed and hanging in his house.↓

Tonight we celebrated another great year in the life of a great man, father, and grandfather! 73 years YOUNG!

Happy Birthday Dad!!! I am glad I got to spend some of it with you!

Max (aka Wilford Brimley) came to say Happy Birthday too!

PHOTOHUNT
This week's subject was FURRY...

Our bunny Bandit was definitely FURRY!

Another furry bunny!

Furry in a messed up sort of way↓

Last week's was CHIPPED (I am playing this week since I missed last weeks)

I am really strrreeeetttccchhhhiiiinnnggg this....since CHIPPED is an impossible subject!

CHIPPED is at least a golf term, so it relates kind of! I am posting these mini golf pix of my boys chipping all kinds of things except the ball! (i.e., the cool siding on the haunted house, the paint on the course, the car windows in the parking lot...okay so I am exaggerating a little, but this one was hard!)

===================================

1. Which meal is the one you cook best?
Dave would say my Wok Dinner. It is pretty tasty but a lot of work. My boys would probably say my crepes with Suzette sauce, meatloaf, pork chops, or chicken pot pie. Personally I would say my lasagna.

2. Tell us what you would never eat.
I would never eat escargot (translated as slimmy disgusting why on earth would anyone eat snails!), oysters, squid, sushi, octopus (pretty much ANYTHING from the ocean!), frog legs, rattlesnake, tongue, liver, pigs feet, brains of any kind, the list could go ON and ON!

3. Is your hometown famous for anything or anybody?
The 2002 Winter Olympics!

4. Can you play a musical instrument?
I play the piano. I used to play the clarinet in Jr. High. I still really want to learn to play the harp.

5. Tell us about your second ever lover.
Well, since my hubby reads this occasionally, I will plead the 5th on this one!

6. What is your favorite restaurant?
Old Spaghetti Factory and Carrabas♥

7. If it were your call, how often would you make love?
Exercising my constitutional rights again.....the 5th!

8. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
Hmm....there's too many to pick just one. Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Sarah Palin, Oprah, Thomas S. Monson.

9. Tell us about your job.
I honestly have the best job on the planet. Even though I also believe it is the hardest. I am a SAHM and I love it. There is nothing I can think of that I would rather be doing than creating a home where my family wants to return to each day after being beaten around in the crazy world.

MY ANSWERS ☺

Breakfast
What is the longest you have gone without sleep?
I am not sure, but it felt like I didn't sleep for four days at girl's camp!

Lunch
If you don't live alone, do you think you would be able to, and if you do live alone, do you enjoy it? Why?
I love being alone at times, but as far as living alone all the time, I think I would hate that. It might be okay for about a week or so, but then it would get old fast! I like people too much!♥

Dinner

Would you rather give a public speech or bungee jump?
Definitely give a speech! I have a fear of heights and I have no desire to ever free fall towards the ground hoping I will not splatter all over when I get there! Besides, I do a lot of speaking and I enjoy it for the most part.

Midnight Snack
Have you ever rode on a train?
I used to ride on them a lot when I was a little girl. We even slept on them. When Dave and I were engaged, we were in the Hill Cumorah Pageant and after it was over we toured the east and rode a train from New York to Washington DC. I love trains! So fun. I have yet to ride the new Front Runner here in Utah though.

Recipe for the Week (instead of your recipe for life, what is it just for this week?)

I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. ~Agatha Christie

1. I'd really like to be seriously snoozin' right now.

2. OW! Dang blasted it! is the word you'd most often hear me say if I stubbed my toe.

3. Possession is 90% of the law!

4. Mmm....is the only word needed for Captain Jack Sparrow.

5. Marshmallows and fire go together like me and chocolate!

6. Sometimes my runs seem to go on and on.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to (or NOT!) surviving family pictures (the most stressful event known to momkind), Sky being home for a few days!, tomorrow my plans include a run (I hope!), helping McKay with his science fair project..ugh!, prepare my combined YW lesson, enjoy Sky being home, and attend my Daddy O's birthday party and Sunday, I want to attend all my meetings, do a good job on my lesson, make some fun "football" food and watch the SUPER BOWL! Go Cards!

This post brought to you by the letter "R"

My friend, Shaila, is playing a letter game. She assigned me the letter R. I am supposed to list 10 things that I like that start with the letter R. So, here goes:

pimp myspace profile you ready?!!! Here we go...

RUNNING

Even though I don't love running as far as the actual act of running...I do LOVE the way I feel after I run. It feels so good! And it is also a great feeling knowing I am able to do something I used to think I could never do!The Ogden Half Marathon

RACES

Entering races keeps me motivated to keep running and training. It gives me something to push myself towards and a goal to work up to. They are also a lot of fun when you do them with friends!
Top of Utah Half Marathon

RABBITS

How can you not love rabbits? They are the cutest, cuddliest, and softest animal on the planet. We've had two...Bandit and Dobbler (or Bob or Steve or whatever the boys decided to call him that day.) Bandit was Tyson's and he was spoiled! I mean how many bunnies do you know that celebrate their birthday's each year? Bandit died a couple of years ago and What's His Name just disappeared one day. Both pix are of Bandit. Isn't he so stinkin' cute??? And I do mean that literally! :o)

His 4th birthday - he lived to be six

Tyson and Bandito on one of his birthdays!

READING

I really love to read. Whether it's books or on-line or whatever. I love to be learning something new or taken into a different world for a while.

RAIN

Rain makes me happy! It puts me in a good mood immediately and I usually don't want it to stop! I could be very happy living in Washington! (or the rain forest!)

RECIPES

I LOVE recipes and recipe books! I like collecting them and I love trying new ones out and experimenting with my own. I have put together two large recipe books from different organizations and I loved every minute of it.

REMEMBER
This word has become very important to me. We have so much in our lives that is good if we will REMEMBER to focus on that instead of what isn't. We will then find the joy that is there. This word has a lot of meaning for me in other ways as well.

RISK
No...no...no! Not the board game! I actually detest that! That game can go on and on for hours on end! My boys and Dave love it, but not me. The risks I am talking about are the ones that we have to take if we want to grow and progress in this life. Life is a risk. Just getting up each day and walking into that big world is a risk. But life wouldn't be worth living if it wasn't a little risky!

RESTAURANTS

Love em! My favorite thing to make for dinner is reservations! I know I just said I like recipes and trying them out, but that also goes for trying out other's recipes too! That is like twice the fun!

RANCH DRESSING

It isn't just for salads anymore! I put it on baked potatoes and pasta and dip my pizza in it. It is a great sauce for just about anything!
Ever heard of a Ranch Dressing fountain? Hmm.... I mean - Mmm...

If you want to play (and you DO!) --- let me know and I will assign you a letter!
