The Amazing Race ~ VD version!

Dave and I decided to break the traditional movie and dinner Valentine's date and do something different this year. My friend Heidi invited us to join them in THE AMAZING RACE Valentine's Day version that was put on by one of her Heritage Maker co-workers. It sounded like so much fun and so I told her to sign us up!

The grand prize was two round fare tickets to San Diego and a two night stay in a great hotel with $40 gift certificates to Olive Garden! The girl that sponsored it (Kristin) had won it in another contest but couldn't use it and so she was giving it away! Talk about GENEROUS! I didn't even know about the prize until the day before. I just thought it sounded like a fun way to spend VD. We really weren't in it for the prize UNTIL we got there and the room was reeking with competiveness and the challenge of winning. One couple even came with war paint on their faces! At that point we were ready to fight and race AND win!

The couple we went with, Heidi and Dennis, weren't qualified to win since Heidi is part of the business with Kristin. But they wanted to help us win the prize. So we doubled up as race partners.

*Kristin and Heidi
*Me rolling the dice - we had to roll a one before we could start!
*Half of the group. There were 24 people in the running.

We had a huge disadvantage because it was held in a city that none of us were really familiar with. We had 10 stops we had to make and take a photo proving we were there. We were given clues (riddles) and had to figure out what places we were to go to. It was tougher than any of us thought it would be. Thankfully Heidi could call her sister (our life-line) and ask her for some directions! We were driving in circles a few times waiting for her to tell us what way to turn or what direction to head in.

*Some of the stops we had to make

*We had to do random acts of service from a list along the way also. Here we are cleaning the snow off of someone's car.

Their were three detours along the way and we were required to spend 15 minutes at each. We were given some paper and questions and we were supposed to write about our love story. 1) Our first date 2) Our first kiss 3) Our engagement.

The first detour was my FAVORITE! It was at a salon and we were given a foot soak in this amazing stuff that turns into foamy gel-like stuff. It was so cool! And felt so good! After the soak we were supposed to rub lotion on our spouses feet. When she told us that, Heidi and I both immediately said, "Sorry...don't do feet!" (almost in unison!) We ran out of time luckily and so the guys didn't get the lotion! Whew!

*At the salon and the luxurious foot soak! ↑
*Dennis and Heidi soaking away.
*We also had to collect garbage along the way.

Here are a few more of the stops. The swings were a real challenge to find, but we did it!
We were told we had to take a picture of us kissing at some of the stops! Not sure how the couples did it that didn't have another couple with them to take the photo!

Cold Stone
was another one of our detours. The line was HUGE and so while Heidi and Dennis waited in the line, Dave and I ran to Krispy Kreme because the HOT DONUTS light was on! It was right next door and who would be crazy enough to pass up a hot donut?!

*Cold Stone ↑
*Not so cold stone!
*At Krispy Kreme
*Me giving a Valentine away to a Krispy Kreme worker (that was another requirement - we had to give a Valentine away to a person alone.)
Fazoli's was our third detour. We had to spend 15 minutes there writing our love story and we had gift certificates in our package so we could eat if we wanted. We sat down and wrote, took the required kissing photo, and headed back after our time was done to see how we did. We decided to go back and eat LATER when we had more time to enjoy it at a less stressed pace!
Crossing the FINISH LINE!
Looking SAD because we didn't win...:o(
But HAPPY because we had such a FUN time!!!
It really was...

On the side:

Look how spoiled I got on Valentine's Day!!!! There are some perks to living with ALL men! They really do spoil me! Thanks guys... I U 2!

that sounds like the best time ever. How did they organize it? did they get like the footbath people to donate it or what? and did you guys as partisipants have to sign up with a fee? so there would be a grand prise? I would love to put one of these on if you have any info you can email me.

Oh my goodness that sounds like so much fun! It looks cold, but if you were racing you probably didn't notice that much. How much did you have to pay to do it or was it free? I would like some more info too. Thanks!

Kelli and Kelsee-

We paid a $30 entry fee but inside our packet was $10 gift card to Fazoli's and $4 to Cold Stone. The prize was something she had won but couldn't use because her husband is in Iraq...I know insane! I think I would have found a way to use it regardless!
I will email you the link to the email we got telling all about it.

Oh and I'm not sure about the foot bath. Part of that might have come out of our entry fee. I will ask and let you know. That was the best part! Well Cold Stone and Fazoli's were pretty tasty too!
