Thoughts About Thoughts

Lately I've had a lot of thoughts on thoughts. I've even thought that I think I thought that I thought that thoughts are thought before I thought they were thoughts.

Thoughtful I know.
The last year or so, I have been enthralled with the amazing power of our thoughts. I have spent a lot of time studying the way our thoughts work. I believe the law of attraction is a real thing and that we really do attract things into our lives simply through our thoughts. I truly believe that as it states in Proverbs 23:7 - "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." What we think about regularly, we create as our reality. If we change our thinking we change our life.

We have the power to consciously CHOOSE our thoughts or let them aimlessly run our lives. When a thought pops into our heads, there is a time delay before the thoughts can take up residence and make themselves comfortable. We are given that time-delay, a pause, a second chance to invite them in to stay and make themselves at home or to tell them to GET LOST! Isn't that a great blessing?
It is sooooo easy to to get trapped into aimless thinking. To let all the thoughts that cross our mind stay and visit for at least a while. Our minds can wander and when they do it seems those negative, destructive thoughts take over as the travel agents of our minds and begin calling all the shots.
Our thoughts really do have the power to take control of our lives. Literally! It is easy to get side-tracked and remain on auto-pilot thinking. That is unless we CHOOSE to re-direct those travel plans and send them on their way not allowing entrance inside our minds without a proper passport.

The good news is WE CHOOSE which direction they will go.

Our thoughts really do bring forth the conditions of the life we experience, whether it be good or bad. We can be the master (travel agent) of our thoughts and take them where we want (or don't want) them to go. It isn't always easy and it takes some work, but it can be done.
Here are few of my favorite thoughts that others have thought on thoughts☺

"There is a vast difference between having a thought and thinking. All kinds of unwanted thoughts can knock at the door of our mind, but if we don't let them in, they leave us alone. But in thinking, we are imbuing a thought with life energy. We open wide the door and sit that thought down to dinner. When a thought of cynicism, resentment or vindication comes calling, what do you do? Do you bolt the door or do you lay out a smorgasbord? Just remember that the thoughts you entertain not only grow life in you, they become the life that you're living."
- Mary Manin Morrissey

Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image. What we continually think about eventually will manifest in our lives.
- Sidney Madwed

"Our thoughts create our reality -- where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go.”Peter McWilliams

"When all evil thought harasses the mind, the best method of conquering it is by ignoring it. How can we ignore an evil thought? By forgetting it. How can we forget? By not indulging in it again, and also by not brooding over it. How can we prevent the mind from indulging in it again or brooding over it? By thinking of something very interesting, something sublime and inspiring. Ignore, forget, think of something inspiring."
-Sri Swami Sivananda

“When I want to think of things more pleasant, I close the cupboards of my mind revealing the more unpleasant things of life, and open up the cupboards containing the more pleasant thoughts. If I want to sleep, I close up all the cupboards of mind!”
-Napolean

"At first a wrong thought enters the mind. Then you entertain a strong imagination. You take delight in dwelling on that wrong thought. You give consent to its stay in the mind, and gradually the wrong thought, when it is not resisted, takes a strong hold in your mind. Then it becomes very difficult to drive it off. The proverb goes: “Give a rogue an inch and he will take an ell.” This is true of wrong thoughts also."
- Sri Swami Sivananda

"You have powers you never dreamed of. You can do things you never thought you could do. There are no limitations in what you can do except the limitations of your own mind."
- Darwin P. Kingsley

"Remember, happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely upon what you think."
- Dale Carnegie

"The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking."
- Albert Einstein

“Such as are your habitual thoughts, such also will be the character of your mind; for the soul is dyed by the thoughts”
-Marcus Aurelius, Roman Empereor (AD 121-180)

Did this spur a thought or two? Are you thinking that you thought you thought that you thought that thinking was so thoughtful? Well, if so, be thoughtful and leave a thought! ☺

Just a thought...

I struggle with this constantly. There is a strain of negativitism in my family that I try to fight all the time. I got chosen to have it. It is not fun. I try very hard to be upbeat when I can and funny. Sometimes the DNA you get is the pits. :) Thanks for giving me a great reminder.

I am planning to do the Ogden Marathon. Right now I am taking some time off. I have shin splints for the TOU. I will start training about 16 weeks before the marathon. I know that with training you would be able to finish a marathon.

Thanks for the nice post. I love your quotes, does make a difference when we act on our thoughts. We all need these good reminders, it always so easy sometimes to push certain thoughts away and not act on them, needless to say we miss out on some special experiences. Thanks for visiting my blog, Tamee

So true. I needed this reminder today. Thoughts are almost harder to control than actions because they are so secret. No one (well almost no one) knows our thoughts and if we choose, we can indulge them for as long as we want. Tough thing is, they always lead to actions. It's a hard thing, but I always feel a great sense of accomplishment when I'm able to push something destructive out of my mind. It usually takes me thinking of a song. It just works for me. Well, usually
Love the happiness quote. So true. I need to copy that one.

I love those--thanks for sharing. I love that you are so positive. That last poster is great.

My favorite thought listed is the Marcus Aurelius one. Very much like the one in Proverbs that you mentioned.
