Oh prom...sigh. Today my son Bryce and I went shopping for his tux for his Junior Prom. It is this Saturday. Yes, we were fortunate to find one. But we weren't the only slow ones. The place was packed! There really was no other time he could go when I could and so it had to be today. Besides, it took his date quite a while to get her dress color to him.
It was quite fun. Oh, how I wish I had brought my camera! He ended up with a nice black tux and a silver patterned vest. Her dress is a beautiful sapphire blue that is almost impossible to match. They had nothing that shade and so he went with the silver and a black bow tie. He also got a classy top hat. When I asked if he also wanted a cane the saleslady said they are not allowed at prom because they are considered a weapon. Huh? Yeah, that's what she said. Then in the next breath she mentioned she had one left that she would give us for FREE because the top of it was a little broken. She asked if we were interested and my son immediately said, "Yes!" He thought it would be fun to take it in the restaurant and on the rest of the date. Not a bad idea since most of prom night is not spent at the dance anyway. At least he will be armed...(hopefully not dangerous!) He is going to look so sharp! We also went and got his flowers ordered as well. A wrist corsage of three beautiful white roses laced with silver ribbon.
I am just glad he is going. He honestly didn't want to go because he said there was no one he really was interested in taking right now. What? Bryce? My Casanova! hmm.. Not go to your only Junior Prom? Upon hearing that blasphemy, I told him that as a junior boy it was his duty to ask someone or there will be a junior girl that doesn't get to go to her junior prom. He told me it was way too expensive to just take someone for that reason. Well, all the memories of my junior prom came flooding back. Soooo.....I decided to cut a deal with him. I told him if he went then I would help with the expenses. Didn't take long before he had a date.
Why do I feel this way? Well, going back a looooooooooooooong time ago...in a galaxy far, far away. ...my junior prom to be exact. It was not a fairy tale story. Or even a sci-fi thriller. I do not have the greatest memories of that event in my life. Yes, I was asked. Yes, I had a beautiful dress. Yes, I was soooooo excited. Yes, it was going to be at the State Capitol. Yes, I. GOT. THE. CHICKEN. POX! Yep...the CHICKEN POX! I was 16 years old and I got the flippin' chicken pox! And to top it all off, my date didn't believe me! Oh, the nerve! He thought I didn't want to go with him and so I was making it up. Helllloooooo... Even IF I didn't want to particularly go with him, I still wouldn't have wanted to miss MY ONLY Jr. Prom! I would have gone with Yoda for crying out loud! Well to make a long story longer, I ended up missing the prom, not to mention cheerleader tryouts (even MORE devastating than missing the prom - but that's another story for another day!) all because of some virus! Waaa....waaa...waaaaaaaaaa!!! So, now you see the reasoning behind my persistence in making sure he didn't miss his...or make some girl miss hers. Besides, how often do you get to wear a top hat and carry a weapon???
This is how he asked...

No! I didn't even get asked...
:(
That is so funny! It will definately carry some fun memories with them.
That is hilarious! Mine was no better. I got sick while at the dance! REALLY sick! My poor date. But at least it makes a great story now.
Mine was not a good experience at all ; (
And no date for the Senior Ball ; (
I think you're a great mom to offer to help pay for his so he would go. Hope he has a great time.
Oh gosh, I hope someone had a good experience!
I feel almost guilty because I had a GREAT time! I went with my boyfriend Kris (who I married 3 1/2 years later!) and we doubled with my best friend and her boyfriend. I wore a peach colored ruffly and lacy dress that I made myself...it was pretty cute for 1979, haha!
I LOVED reading about your son's experience getting ready for Prom! I have a son who's married now, and it was so fun helping him get ready for the big dances when he was in high school! :)
It sounds like you had a great time with you Bryson, thanks for encouraging him to go. Being PTA pres. it is hard to see all the girls that aren't going!!! Its great to have moms that encourage. As for my experience I can only remember getting asked by a really shy boy who hardly said anything the whole night. The boy I really wanted to go with asked me two days after the first one, and in the olden days they just called and asked on the phone!! I am planning on blogging about my experience with Alysa tomorrow or the next day after I get the dress done~!!!
I dind't go to Junior Prom, but I went to Senior. My date was from Hawaii and so had his father fly in several lei's for me to choose instead of a corsage. It was cool.
Hi jodi, My mom sent me your blog and i thought i would drop a quick Hello... Also Do you know if there is a way to change the layout template without loosing all the pictures and widgets you added to it?
Thanks
Raigon Hoyt
Hello jodi again,
I was also wondering how did you get things like your music player and some of the little quotes and widgets in the middle of your page at the bottom instead of to the right side where the rest of them are. Iv tried putting them under the add element to page but it ends up going to the right side and if its wide you dont see all of it its cut off.. Any advice??
Thanks
Raigon
Thank you.. I hope you dont mind but i got most of my ideas from your page.. I had a very plain jane one because i didnt really know much about this blog stuff until my mom said go check out yours. I had a friend get me started but it didnt have any of the fun widget stuff...
